JAKARTA – Preparedness in facing medical emergencies is a crucial competence, especially for teams frequently engaged in fieldwork and community interactions. To strengthen this capacity, the SHIELD Papua team actively participated in the First Aid Responder training organised by the Regional Health Crisis & Emergency Centre (PK3D) DKI Jakarta.

The event, held on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, at the Parasitology Auditorium, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia (FKUI), was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to respond to medical emergencies swiftly and accurately.

In this intensive training, SHIELD Papua sent five representatives: Aria A. Satwiko, I Nyoman I. K. Wijaya, Adhi Adrianto, Agus Rachmat, and Evelyn Puspaningrum. This participation reflects the initiative's commitment to ensuring that the implementation team possesses robust physical and technical readiness to handle health risks in various conditions.

The training programme covered vital topics, ranging from an introduction to emergency response systems and Basic Life Support (BLS)—including CPR techniques—to choking management, wound care, and fracture management. In addition to theoretical sessions, participants engaged in hands-on practical sessions to ensure the skills learned could be correctly applied in real-life situations.

Through participation in this training, the SHIELD Papua team is expected to enhance collective readiness in handling urgent medical situations, thereby providing better safety and protection while executing health programmes in the field.
